Located in the Mott Haven neighborhood in the South Bronx, the park features rolling hills, expanses of green grass, and grand old trees. The site was once part of the estate of Jonas Bronck (1600-43), for whom the Bronx is named. It is one of the largest parks in the area with a pool, playground, basketball courts, an indoor recreation center, picnic seating areas, and more. In the winter, the hills are perfect for sledding. St. Mary’s Park received $30 million from NYC’s Anchor Parks initiative, which will renovate the park’s ballfields, pathways, and amphitheater.

    NYRR Open Run is a community-based, volunteer-supported running initiative - bringing free weekly runs and walks to local neighborhood parks.

  • What day and time is Open Run?

    Most Open Runs take place during the weekend and they start at different times in different locations. Check the schedule to see when Open Run starts in your local park.

  • How much does Open Run cost?

    NYRR Open Run is completely free.

  • Do I need to be a runner?

    No, you don’t need to be a runner to participate in Open Run! You can run or walk, whatever distance you feel comfortable with. We welcome people of all abilities. The key is just to get moving and have a good time.

  • Can I bring my dog?

    Absolutely! We welcome all dogs at Open Run, as long as they are on a short leash to comply with NYC Parks regulations as well as for the safety of the other participants.

  • Can I bring a stroller?

    Please do! We welcome all ages at Open Run. Please start toward the back and be mindful of other Open Run participants and park users.

  • Can I bring family and friends?

    We won’t say it is a requirement, but isn’t it just more fun to run with others? Bring as many family members and friends as you wish—all are welcome at Open Run! Please keep in mind that we will be adhering to social distancing guidelines at all Open Runs.

  • Can I bring my kids?

    Yes, you can. We ask that you run with your kids if they cannot complete the distance on their own. Please note: A parent or guardian must also sign a waiver before any child under age 18 can participate.

  • How can I volunteer at Open Run?

    Visit each Open Run park's information page to sign up for a volunteer opportunity, or you can sign up through our volunteer form. All volunteers must sign up in advance to volunteer at an Open Run session. All volunteers should adhere to NYRR's Volunteer Guidelines.

  • Does volunteering at Open Run count toward my 9+1?

    Open Run volunteer opportunities are not eligible for +1 credit for guaranteed entry ti the TCS New York City Marathon.

Park entrance at the intersection of Morrison Avenue and Lafayette Avenue. Called the “Gateway to the Bronx River,” 205-acre Soundview Park is located where the Bronx River opens into the East River. This urban green space is filled with grassy baseball and soccer fields, a cricket pitch, basketball courts, a running track, walking/biking paths, picnic fields and more! With its extensive views of the water, Soundview Park celebrates the beauty of both the Bronx and East Rivers. The Open Run course helps participants celebrate one another as they take part in a scenic, fun run/walk!

Morningside Park stretches 13 blocks through the neighborhoods of Harlem and Morningside Heights and features winding paths bordered with flowers and trees, sports fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, and a cascading waterfall. On Saturdays, local farmers sell their goods in an outdoor market.
