Diversity, Equity, and Social Responsibility at New York Road Runners
Mission
New York Road Runners is building and sustaining a culture rooted in our values that shape how we work, how we connect with one another, and how we engage with our communities. Through advocacy, workforce diversity initiatives, and a culture of inclusion and belonging, we are creating an environment where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. By nurturing meaningful relationships and embedding diversity, equity, and social responsibility into how we engage, we are strengthening our connections with the communities we serve and creating a greater impact.
Who We Are
The Diversity, Equity, and Social Responsibility Department (DES) advances New York Road Runner’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility. Our workforce reflects the diverse communities we serve, and we work with teams across the organization and external collaborators to create experiences and environments where people feel supported, empowered, and encouraged to bring their unique perspectives. Our work is guided by five pillars: advocacy, workforce diversity, inclusion and belonging, compliance, and social responsibility. Through these pillars, we shape our storytelling, programs, platforms, races, events, and internal initiatives. We believe that when people feel seen, valued, respected, and included, our workplace, our events, and the communities we serve are stronger.

What We Offer
We offer inclusive trainings and workshops for our staff and people managers year-round, including anti-discrimination and harassment training, implicit bias training, bystander and upstander intervention training, disability etiquette, and inclusion and allyship training.
In collaboration with other departments, we create opportunities for employees to engage with and contribute to our communities. These include volunteer initiatives with organizations such as God’s Love We Deliver, as well as sustainability-focused events such as our NYRR Day of Service and pre-race plogging events.
Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play a significant role in ensuring a diverse and inclusive environment at New York Road Runners. The ERGs are formed and led by our employees, creating opportunities for networking, learning, and connection with support and guidance from the DES Team.
Learning and Growing

Corporate social responsibility is a key part of this work, reflected in our efforts to engage diverse suppliers and vendors, align with our environmental and social responsibility goals, and advance initiatives focused on volunteerism, philanthropy, and community impact.
