Chief Development Officer
Alexander Egan joined NYRR in July 2024 as its Senior Vice President of Philanthropy and became the Chief Development Officer in November 2024. In this role he partners with the senior leadership team and the Board of Directors to develop a compelling philanthropic vision and to spearhead transformational fundraising initiatives that position NYRR for unprecedented growth and impact.
Alex was previously the Chief Development Officer at the Randall’s Island Park Alliance, Associate Vice President of Operations Management at the Central Park Conservancy, and President/COO of Sail To Prevail. He previously worked in the public sector, with a US Senator, Mayor, and Governor and began his career as a volunteer First Responder/EMT in his hometown of Foster, Rhode Island.
Alex graduated magna cum laude from Skidmore College (NCAA Academic All-America Member of the Swimming & Diving Team, and Crew Team), received a Masters in Public Administration from Columbia University, a Masters in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island, completed the Program for Leadership Development at Harvard Business School, and earned a US Coast Guard Master’s Limited License to Captain vessels up to 100 tons.
Alex’s volunteer work includes having served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees at the USA Triathlon Foundation and the President of the Central Park Track Club; he has also served on the Boards of Moses Brown School, Moses Brown Alumni Association, IYRS School of Technology and Trades, Hudson River Community Sailing, NYC Autism Charter Schools Associate Board, Best Buddies NY Advisory Board, Tang Art Museum - National Advisory Council, New York Yacht Club Sailing Committee, NYC Young Members Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and the Board at Skidmore College where he is now recognized as a Fellow Trustee.
Alex has completed the marathon distance over 100 times, including earning the Abbott World Marathon Major Six Star medal with 12 consecutive Boston Marathons, 9 consecutive TCS New York City Marathons, 3 Chicago Marathons, Tokyo Marathon, Berlin Marathon, London Marathon, Cape Town Marathon, 8 Ironmans, the Great World Race (7 Marathons, on 7 continents, in a week), Disney Dopey Challenge, and multiple 50K, 60K, and 50 Mile ultramarathons. In addition, he has completed over 180 New York Road Runner Races, but his favorite runs are Rising NYRR races with his family.
