National Native American Heritage Month

November is National Native American Heritage Month, which celebrates the history and contributions of Native Americans.

In addition to celebrating Native American Heritage, NYRR acknowledges the first inhabitants of the land and wants to begin to offer land acknowledgments.

A land acknowledgment is a formal statement that recognizes and respects Indigenous Peoples as traditional/original stewards of the land, the trauma and forced removal from lands, and the enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories.

Going forward we are committed to begin integrating land acknowledgments into our programs, races, and events to honor Indigenous people. Further, we will work together with Indigenous runners and community leaders to develop a plan for partnership and support of Indigenous communities.
