Happy Pride Month! In celebration of our longtime partnership with Front Runners New York, we’re thrilled to bring back the Front Runners New York LGBT Pride Run 6K on June 26 and the Virtual Front Runners New York LGBT 5K June 25-30.

This year marks the 40th running of the Pride Run, which took place for the first time on June 26, 1982 with 440 runners and has been a Pride Weekend tradition ever since as a partnership between Front Runners New York and NYRR, “spreading pride with every stride.”

Front Runners New York celebrates the history of the Pride Run through an archive of photos, T-shirt designs, and digitized documents from over 30 years of Pride Run history. “In the early years, people were hesitant to participate (and even wear the t-shirt) out of fear of exposing their sexual identity,” the archive notes. “Today, the run is an integral part of the city's race line-up and people of all identities take part.”

We share a few photos and other elements from the archives; for much more, visit the Front Runners New York Pride Run Archives.
