A Letter to the Running Community

Dear Running Friends,

Together we are in the midst of unprecedented, unpredictable, and formidable times. The coronavirus outbreak has affected all of us in so many ways. Our emotions range from sympathy and concern to hope and determination. As the days go by, we understand more and more the challenges we face ahead. It’s during these very trying times that we especially share our love for the people of New York City, the global community, and runners everywhere.

The New York Road Runners team is currently working from home and remains committed to our core mission of over 60 years, to help and inspire people through running. Today, that goal seems even more important as people look for ways to stay active. Our race event and programing schedule may have paused, but it’s important that we all remain active in a safe and responsible way.

We’ll continue to work to support the health and well-being of the running community by staying connected in the days, weeks, and months ahead through our Virtual Races, Virtual Training, and Rising New York Road Runners kids Active At Home activities. You can visit NYRR.org to learn more about what we are doing to help during these times.

We want to stay connected with all of you—now more than ever. I often say that runners like to do two things—run, and talk about running. Hopefully, you can join us for a community chat on Facebook Live tomorrow, Thursday, April 2 at 3:00 p.m. ET. We’ll answer some of the questions you’ve been asking and talk about ways we are trying to help.

Our journey as runners often takes us down shared roads. At times, those roads are harder and more challenging than we planned for and we need to adjust our pace to make our way through. But always, our grit, determination, perseverance, humanity, and sheer belief in ourselves and our community guide us to the finish line.

Believe in healthy habits, believe in family and friends, believe in everyday heroes, believe in community spirit, and believe in running.

Be well,

A Letter to the Running Community
