Run fast without running hard.
Running MottoNick is a musician, who happened to find running because of a bet. For over a decade, he simultaneously improved his times while remaining a committed student of the sport. He maintains his musings blog (https://nickgrinlinton.com/blog) detailing his observations related to training. In 2016, he visited Iten, Kenya to write about training and how it relates to Kenyan culture. Nick’s strengths lie in pacing athletes to run well-executed workouts and races. He is observant and methodical, yet practical in striving for his athletes to reach their full potential. Nick specializes in road running (5K to marathon).
How would you describe your coaching style?
I aim to educate athletes about the underlying principles of how workouts fit together in a training program. During a session, I give simple cues to help people become stronger and smarter runners in a laid-back fashion. My goal is to equip you with the knowledge needed to reach your potential.
What is your proudest coaching moment?
When you win the workout (not race the workout), which ultimately results in running stronger and setting personal records across all distances.
What is your favorite workout to coach and why?
Split tempo runs at a controlled intensity. It’s the easiest aspect to control and the most sustainable way to improve your high-end aerobic capacity.
