Gladys Chepkurui, making her NYRR racing debut, is the fastest runner in this year’s women’s open division with a personal-best time of 1:05:46 that she set at the 2023 Barcelona Half Marathon.
She has previously claimed victories at the B.A.A. Half Marathon, Bangsaen21 Half Marathon, and Napoli City Half Marathon.
Chepkurui comes from a humble upbringing, with both of her parents working as farmers. She was a national-level runner by the time she reached high school, and after graduating moved to Iten to train full time. She lives with her husband, who is also her coach, and funds her younger sister's education there. She is also building a home for her parents in the countryside.
