Andreas Almgren, the 2026 World Half Marathon champion, 11-time Swedish champion, and 2026 European 10,000-meter champion, is set to make his marathon debut at the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon.

This year, Almgren set the European record in the road 10K in Valencia, crossing the finish line in 26:45. Just a few months later, he won his second straight Swedish Championship in the 10K. He is also a two-time national champion in the 800 meters, 1,500 meters, and 5,000 meters and a threetime national champion in the 3,000 meters indoors.

Almgren had a record-setting 2025, with his 58:41 time in Valencia establishing a new European record in the half marathon and making him the first non–African-born runner to break 59 minutes. That year he also set the European record in the 5,000 meters at the Diamond League, breaking the tape in 12:44.27. Almgren holds Swedish records in the outdoor and indoor 3,000 meters and the 10,000 meters.

To compete at the highest level, Almgren follows a demanding training program that includes 125-mile weeks and double-threshold training, a Scandinavian method built around two carefully controlled threshold workouts in a single day.
